Birthmarks.com is proud to host the biggest (and we think the best) Private Newsgroup related to treating and living with birthmarks and associated syndromes. -and at no cost to you! If you need information, you've got it! We would like to also take this space to acknowledge LSoft’s donation of list hosting services to ICORS (our listserv hosting provider).
Q: So what is a private newsgroup?
A: It's an e-mail based discussion group, also known as a newsgroup, the group or the list, that you must subscribe to in order to receive and post e-mail to the members. The unique characteristic is when someone posts a message to the list then everyone subscribing to the list will automatically receive it.
Membership does have its privileges! :) We have an active membership with participants including people with PWS and other types of birthmarks, parents with children who have PWS, laser manufacturers, doctors, national researchers, activists and authors. Members also have access to many other member only items.
We have a membership of thousands of individuals though obviously not all participate in active conversations. Activating your membership opens you up to an ongoing e-mail based conversation. You will be able to ask any questions you may have about your situation, and share your knowledge with the rest of the group, all in a caring supportive setting. While we may not post e-mail every day you should expect to receive roughly 10 to 20 e-mails each day from the group. You should consider this when activating your membership. Using a separate e-mail address strictly for our newgroup may be a good choice. Deleting 20 e-mails a day from your business account could get tiresome.
To NOT receive these e-mails, you can customize your account as to which of our various services (publications) you want to receive. Log into your account, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "Edit My Account" link. You can then UNCHECK the "Our Newsgroup" box. Membership privileges continue and you can still read the group e-mails on the website at the "Daily Summary of Postings" page after you log in.
E-mails should generally stay on topic, but we're a pretty open and friendly group. If you have personal news feel free to send out an e-mail, but if it's off topic please start your e-mail header with "OT". -and be sure to read our articles below on Newsgroup guidelines and etiquette. Reading our guidelines is a requirement for membership.
This list is casually moderated. Your friendly list administrators manage this group and reserve the right to take corrective steps with those not acting in a civil manner or following the guidelines you'll receive with your confirmation e-mail (but this has very rarely happened in all the years we've been online). |
| To subscribe to our newsgroup, enter your e-mail address and click GO: Make sure your e-mail address is correct! We can't contact you if your e-mail address is incorrect! If you don't receive a confirmation e-mail then this is the likely culprit. If you think something is wrong don't hesitate to drop an e-mail to the newsgroup moderators at Community@Birthmarks.com. |

| Editor's Note on Your Privacy:: If you subscribe to the newsgroup you will receive postings from members via e-mail. If you choose, we will also let you know about members-only specials from our sponsors (this is a rare occurence). Your e-mail address will not be used for any other promotional purpose, nor will it be sold or given to any other organization. |
| Daily Summary of Postings: Subscribers, now you can read postings to and from Our Newsgroup from your web browser. New postings are added daily. Not yet a subscriber? Our Newsgroup Etiquette By Charlie Cale (Newsgroup Administrator) This is a worldwide group and we must keep that in mind. We are all very good people, very smart people and as far as my experience goes, very kind people. Having said that I want to go over a few points our old timers may have forgotten and our newbies m |
Newsgroup News | Regarding HOTMAIL and AOL accounts By Charlie Cale (Newsgroup Administrator) Steph' and I get a lot of questions about why folks are deleted from the list. It isn't personal and for the most part it's automatic. |
Glen’s Gang Pen Pal Group and Newsletter By Glen Ethington Glen Ethington, grandson of contributing author Glenda Ethington, is looking for participants for his pen pal group for kids with birthmarks. This a fantastic place for kids to share their thoughts within their own age group! |
