Born in communist Romania, PWS list member Alina Ionescu grew up in a culture of prejudice due to looking different because her facial port-wine stain. She did not allow it to hold her back! By the age of 20, medical complications of her PWS were beginning to show. So, after earning a degree in graphic design, she came to the United States in search of employment and possibly medical help unobtainable in her home country.
After finding work as an au pair in Vail, Colorado, she learned that she faced previously unknown side effects of her PWS, including vision-threatening glaucoma. Without funds or citizenship, she also faced huge financial challenges to provide herself with proper care.
Upon hearing her plight, the Vail, Colorado, community pooled its resources and is in the process of getting her the care she needs. Follow Alina's full story at:
